Just Be You Ⓒ Mike Garbutt

You wake up in the morning you walk down the street with your cigarette in you mouth your coffee in your hand just waiting for someone to pass by you
Sad to say that you're going nowhere, you've been nowhere, you are nowhere, that there is no further to look to find yourself, nor to see where you stand, than beside of you
You might fall between the splinters as your world splits, stops, starts, without, within, the smoke, caffeine, wondering why there's nothing to feel around you
Those chemicals have got you going again, escaping from the pain, collapsing in the shame as tears bewildering thoughts and memories go flying right on by you

What artificial world has found you
Will those inner voices ever move you
From the high life you're living, beyond the catechism
To be you, to just be you

You're just emerging from a daze that the dope made, seems probable as a wave of drowned ships cascade and crumble on the pavement right in front you
I'm not surprised that there is nobody on the street, its four in the morning and cold as ice and the snow bank bodies have breathed their last, but not to defy you
And this song could go on but I think its time to reconstruct my mind, its just a bunch of chords, jumbled letters, scribbled lines designed to try to entertain you
A happy love songs is what I'd rather sing, to escape this world I'm living in, to forget the pain for a while, but now this song is done, gone and forgotten by you

What artificial world has found you
Will those inner voices ever move you
From the high life you're living, beyond the catechism
To be you, to just be you
